Janice Gray of the Eastern Oklahoma Publishing Company announced Monday that the Holdenville News has been sold to Robinson Publishing Company of Holdenville.

Dayna Robinson, President of the company said that beginning next week the Holdenville News will be mailed on Tuesday morning and counter sales will be available that day.

Deadline for ads and news will be Monday at noon.

Within the next two weeks the Holdenville News will be moving to 114 N. Broadway in the same building with Lewis Printing. The phone number will remain the same (405-379-5411).

Subscription rates are actually being reduced. For one year incounty the price will be $27.50; outside the county, $32.50 and outside Oklahoma, $37.50. In the very near future we will be offering online subscriptions for $27.50.

Tammi Giles, who has been with the News for over forty years will be our office manager and Bob Melton will serve as our news editor. We asked Tammy White to stay, but after 22 years, she made the decision to pursue other opportunities. She has been a great asset, not only to this newspaper, but to the entire community. She will certainly be missed, and we wish her well in the days ahead.

Bill Robinson and Janice’s dad, the late Francis Stipe, were good friends for many years and Bill was delighted when Francis bought the paper many years ago.

Holdenville residents have been served by a local newspaper for over 100 years. The Holdenville Times was the precursor to the Holdenville News and began its publication February 18, 1897. Since that time a local newspaper has served this community without interruption.

The Holdenville News has had only four local owners since Tom Phillips merged the Times and The Holdenville Democrat in the 1920s.

There have been only two local owners since Tom Phillips. They were Clay Pettis and Bill and Dayna Robinson.

The Holdenville newspaper has always been dedicated to the betterment of our community and it always will be.

The sixth generation of the Robinson family is now growing up in Holdenville and we are very proud of our city.” Our desire is to work together to better our community through positive news that will show the many good things Holdenville has to offer and highlight the citizens that donate their time to building a better tomorrow for our hometown.”
