There are 33 gold stars in Hughes County’s World War II service flag.
No other county in the state of comparable size comes even close to this re-cord. Only two other counties – Oklahoma and Tulsa – the two largest counties in the state, each with a population several times larger than Hughes county’s have contributed more men to the altar of the supreme sacrifice in this war.
