“Mvskoke Voices” artist reception
Area artists and art lovers are reminded that an artist reception is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. this Saturday, August 15 at the Seminole Nation Museum in Wewoka. The “Mvskoke Voices: Contemporary Native American Art” exhibit, the first ever joint exhibition by the Seminole Nation and the Red Earth Art Center features seven of Oklahoma’s most recognized Seminole and Muscogee (Creek) artist in a show that is free to the public and will remain on display through August 22.
Artists represented in this show includes Leslie A. Deer (Muscogee Creek), Enoch Kelly Haney (Seminole), Benjamin Harjo, Jr (Absentee Shawnee / Seminole), Bobby C. Martin (Muscogee Creek), Dana Tiger (Muscogee Creek), Tony Tiger (Muscogee Creek/Sac & Fox/ Seminole), and the late Tillier Wesley (Muscogee Creek).
The Seminole Nation Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday or by appointment. The museum is closed on federal holidays and admission is free, although donations are encouraged and accepted. Guided tours and special programs for groups are available.
