Former Hughes Countian Remembers Great Depression

Body
Many of us complain about the economy but few of us know what hard times really are. Our parents and grandparents that were alive in the 1920’s and 1930’s knew what hard times really were. Many were homeless, hungry, and hurting. One of those that know first-hand about the Great Depression was my dear friend, Dr. Jim Morse. He grew up and graduated from Calvin and has written several books, including “Growing Up with Real People”, which is a collection of stories he wrote about his life while growing up in Calvin. One of those stories is about the Great Depression. Today we share part 1 of that story.
A few talented citizens from Atwood have been busy making lap throws, pocket walkers (cloth that drapes over a walker with pockets) and bibs for a few residents of Heritage Village in Holdenville. They will be giving these wonderful gifts to three residents with Atwood ties, which include Ozell Youngblood, Jerry Merriman and Tessie Griffin.
